Key considerations

  • Bankruptcy is not the ‘hell’ it’s made out to be. It provides a perfectly legal and legitimate means of freeing the individual from overwhelming debt.
  • ‘Losing everything’ is not the end, but the beginning of a whole new debt-free life - a complete rebirth. On a personal level it feels like my life started again 2 years ago, but this time with an inner strength and belief, and a whole lot more knowledge and experience.
  • Money is only paper – not a matter of life and death. It’s tragic to hear stories of people committing suicide over a few grand’s worth of debt.
  • Take the plunge and put an end to your misery. In most cases the restrictions of bankruptcy last 12 months or less. How quickly does a year pass?
  • Forget about what other people might think. What other people may or may not think is really none of your business anyway. The only person whose opinion counts is your own.
  • With that in mind refrain from beating yourself up. Everybody makes mistakes and is entitled to make good again. Almost all successful business people have had far more ‘failures’ than successes. The difference is how they view those ‘failures’ – seeing them as positive learning experiences and opportunities to improve.
  • Get some impartial, independent professional advice to weigh up all the options. Trust your gut instinct, make the decision that YOU are happy with.
  • Stay positive. It’s likely that some degree of negative thinking has contributed in some way to your current problems. By maintaining a positive, solution orientated attitude you will attract people, circumstances and events that will assist in resolving your problems sooner.
